Specialist skills
Certain jobs which involve particular danger for those doing them or for other employees may only be carried out by workers who can provide evidence of specialist training.
This applies to the following work:
- Operating the following cranes:
- Pendant cranes with a load-carrying capacity of more than 50 kN
- Overhead travelling cranes, gantry cranes, pillar- and wall-mounted jib cranes
- Slewing and boom cranes
- Mobile cranes with a load-carrying capacity of more than 50 kN and a load torque of more than 100 kNm,
- Special cranes (cable, pipe laying, floating, ladle, stripper, charger, foundry, mobile harbour and rail mounted cranes)
- Driving forklift trucks, with the exception of forklifts which pick up and transport their load solely within their wheelbase and tiller-guided pallet trucks
- Works within the framework of gas rescue services
- Carrying out blasting operations independently
- Diving work (general diving work, research diving, working as a diving signaller)
- The preparation and organisation of high-voltage work (work on high-voltage electrical systems with an alternating current of over 1 kV, or direct current over 1.5 kV)
- Organisational and preparation work involving stage equipment
- Organisational and preparation work involving lighting equipment.
For these types of work, a separate course has to be attended which is concluded by an examination. The content and volume of these training courses are laid down in the legislation on occupational safety and health, as are the conditions for participation in the courses and the requirements which training institutions have to fulfil.
Specialist skills are also required for many other jobs, such as supervisory work at building sites, work in open cast mines, demolition work, repairing faults in cooling systems etc. These are, however, not stipulated in detail in the legislation on occupational safety and health.
Special training courses are also required for work as a safety expert, as an occupational physician and as a safety representative.
